You can switch between using the semi- automatic or the grenade launcher. You set the weapon to the "fire mode" at which you want it by pressing the L3 button (Pressing down on the analog stick). You need to add special M203 grenade rounds to your equipment via the Armory screen before you can use the grenade launcher though.
