The difficulty has no impact on your after battle rewards. In other words, there is no difference in EXP gains between Casual, Normal, and Hard. This is how it was in Default, and from my experience, this is also how it is in Second. This means that if you ever need to do some grinding, the best difficulty to do it on is Casual.

Note that you can catch him off guard and jump over him to attack him from above. The first time you do this he won't block your attack, but he will after you've engaged him.
