This game is all about choices. You have an option with each character, to kill or not to. You could choose to kill everyone, kill the characters you dislike, or spare even the nastiest of enemies. You emotionally attach to all the characters. They change how they act depending on the choices you make throughout.
I didn't get the game when it was released and now I feel bad about it, got it from a recent steam sale. I liked to story, it made me think multiple times, mostly about philosophy but admittedly sometimes the story felt predictable but just as often I felt genuinely sad for the characters.

My only negative is that because the play space is so vast you may forget it is an MMO at times. Exploring is a lonely business, but combat if gritty and intense. The game wonderfully captures my childhood love for the series and manages to create unique Pokemon despite the amount being far less than the originals. The story is surprisingly decent (and that's saying something for a Pokemon game) and I even got a bit emotional near the end after I beat the Elite Four.
