I'm always switching. One race I completely blow them away on the +80% difficulty. Next race they're beating my lap time by 5 seconds. Ridiculous, and the ai is HORRIFIC in the first couple turns, not to mention they're like a tank and you're a piece of paper that gets crumpled whether they hit you or you hit them, they stay on their rails.
