In a medium magic server, they will hold their own and can do even great things as long as their spells are not nerfed (which happens on A LOT of servers). Bards bring some great buffs and debuffs with their music and are a great multiclass to have. If spells are not nerfed, being an IGMS Sorc with max spell is youch.
I would assume so, but my gaming groups have always done the random stats. Roll 4d6 and drop the lowest six times, then put those into your stats as you see fit. I've even had some nice DMs that would allow you to reroll one stat if you wanted. I miss tabletop and wish I could get a group together again.
