The reload mods are mostly there for flaming, sleep, exhaust, and paralysis ammos. I use that to immobilize the monster before cluster bombing.

The health bar isn't across the whole screen like in other monster hunters, it's smaller so there's less UI on the screen, which is why it hides when you're not combat. You can get your health to 200 instead of 100 by eating food or drinking nutrients or max/ancient potions and equipping charms or decorations or armor that boosts HP.
