The original post mentioned credit cards, NOT debit cards; that said, I have never used a debit card at any place other than an ATM, so I was not familiar with other fees that could be charged. Not exactly food, but Mittal Teas in Sunder Nagar Market in Delhi is a really nice shop with teas of fantastic quality and freshness -- the prices might be high for India but are really low in US terms, and they have all sorts of packages, including souvenir types in kashmiri boxes and silk pouches as well as plain boxes and tins.
We have three staff members from India, and I asked them where their favorite place to get Indian food in Columbus was. All three independently told me (after saying that nothing was as good as being home) that Amul India is their fave in town. Two of them took me to dinner there, and I agree that it was wonderful.

If you want to experience true Kerala food, then I would strongly recommend finding an authentic Kerala restaurant instead of South indian restaurant. I strongly believe, the so called South indian restaurants cannot do justice to the food.
