Best picture without emulating is a fully backwards compatible PS3 with smoothing on over HDMI. A PS2 with good component cables hooked up to an OSSC is almost as good, aside from the lack of smoothing. The PS5 is apparently going to be capable of running PS2 discs though, so that will most likely yield the best results once available.
